Description
The Department of Middle Eastern South Asian and African Studies at Columbia University announces openings in Arabic language instruction to be filled at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline, beginning July 1, 2023. We are seeking professional language teachers with a serious commitment to teaching languages for academic purposes while developing pedagogical materials and incorporating technological innovations into the curriculum. Applicants whose fields of specialty are Arabic language, linguistics or related fields are welcome to apply. Responsibilities will include teaching 2 or 3 courses per semester and other duties associated with the language program. This is a full-time appointment with multi-year renewals contingent on successful reviews.
Preference will be given to applicants who have a Ph.D., but those with a Master’s degree and considerable language teaching experience are also encouraged to apply. Salary and rank commensurate with experience. Native or near-native fluency in Arabic and English, foreign language instruction experience, and a proficiency-based approach are required.

Qualifications
Master’s degree and considerable language teaching experience

Description
The Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies at Columbia University invites applications for a tenured appointment in modern South Asian Studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The department seeks a scholar with an excellent record of research and publication, in any relevant field of the humanities or the humanistic social sciences.
Review of applications will begin November 15, 2022; the position will remain open until filled. On-campus interviews will take place early in the spring semester. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2023.

Assistant or Associate Professor in Sanskrit and Premodern South Asian studies The Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies (MESAAS) at Columbia University seeks to hire an Assistant or Associate Professor in Sanskrit and Premodern South Asian studies. We will consider applications from new PhDs to recently tenured Associate Professors, whose humanistic work focuses on or connects with the late first millennium to the early modern periods. Applications from scholars working in a second South Asian language (expansively understood) are especially welcome. As a transregional and interdisciplinary department, MESAAS seeks applicants capable of bringing their work and interests into conversation with non-specialists both within the department and across the university. The successful candidate will be expected to sustain an active program of research, publication, undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervision, and service. MESAAS encourages applications from candidates whose research, teaching, and service to the field will contribute to the diversity of the department and the university.
