This Friday, April 14, we will have the pleasure of hosting the Tanzanian filmmaker Amil Shivji, who will be screening his most recent feature film and engaging in a discussion with Mira Nair and entertaining questions from the audience. The film, Vuta N’Kuvute (Tuf of War), is a historical drama and visually poetic rumination on the struggle for independence (from colonialism, cast/race, and gender restrictions) in Zanzibar.

Please join us in Columbia’s Schermerhorn Hall, Room 501, at 5 pm. The screening will be followed by a discussion between the Director, Amil Shivji, and filmmaker Mira Nair.  Questions from the audience will also be entertained.
