My work focuses on Sanskrit satire, particularly on the macabre in the satires of the 11th century Kashmiri author, Kṣemendra.  My work also addresses allusion and influence in the poetry of Bhāravi (6th century) and Māgha (7th century).  Outside of the canon of Sanskrit poetry, I study conceptions of Sanskrit in 19th and 20th century American poetry, mainly in the works of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman and Hart Crane.
